‘CONSTRUCTION / WORK’ by Kate Just

On the way to Melbourne last Saturday, l visited the Seventh Gallery to see the current art exhibition ‘Construction / Work’. A smaller, one story building that packs a punch (not literally). Thoughtfully curated, inside and out, as It leaves room for contemplation. I had no preconceived notions of what to expect and concentrated on just experiencing the content within the space.

Kate Just questions traditional history and uses a contemporary theme in communicating to the viewer. “Construction” utilises different forms of signage, font, colour and plays with what mediums can successfully constitute art. Made in a residency and one smaller knitted item has been added to the exhibition.
If anyone lives in West Gippsland and follow local politics they will know the relevance of the word knitting being mentioned.

It was good to be in a space that allows a wide exploration on freedom of expression. For more information l would recommend looking up Seventh Gallery. On until August 16th. Free entry.

I was encouraged by an art colleague to write about the visit and l hope to Blog four times a year, as a minimum.
